We turn 5 years old this month. That's five years of giving direct and unrestricted grants to individuals and families in need of support.
We make it a point to give direct and unrestricted grants because we've been on the receiving end of them. When Nora and her husband Aaron were struggling, a whole lot of people showed up with money.
But when Nora looked at other online fundraisers, there were a lot of people who didn’t have that same kind of support — people of color, in particular.
As a Minneapolis-based company, we see the economic and educational disparities between white and Black residents in our community. And we know these disparities are occurring all over America. Which is why a major goal of ours for 2020 and beyond is to make more impact within the Black community.
We’ve been steadily increasing our overall financial impact over the past five years, and 2020 has made what we do even more important. A lot of people are struggling, in a lot of communities that might not even know we exist and can help. And we want to change that.
We have a new executive director — the awesome Jesse Ross — running our nonprofit arm. Since joining the team in March, Jesse has pushed us to dream bigger and bolder and has challenged us to increase our nonprofit's financial goals.
And we have.
Our goal for 2020 is to increase our giving capacity to $10,000 per month. This will allow us to give more money to more people than ever before. To accomplish this goal, we need your help raising $30,000 by July 31st.
We're already halfway to our goal. Will you help us cross the finish line? Even a $5 donation goes a long way.
